Christmas is Coming (I know, I know)
A new children's book to go along with The Characters of Christmas
It’s eighty-five degrees in Forth Worth and it’s still October, so why am I sending a newsletter about Christmas? Well, first of all, in my world, it’s never too early to think about the incarnation of the Son of God. Despite the haters, I play Christmas music here in the Darling House before Halloween and do it unapologetically. I can still pause for Thanksgiving and take in Fall (my favorite season despite the fact that the leaves don’t change here until late November, alas).
But the real reason I’m sending out a newsletter about Christmas in October is because I’m excited to announce that this year we have a brand-new children’s version of The Characters of Christmas. It’s called Jesus and The Characters of Christmas and it’s from Harvest House. It’s a beautiful board book that helps kids understand each of the characters around those nativity sets and in doing so helps point them to the real meaning of this season. It’s perfect to give out when kids come by to trick or treat (or if you prefer, Trunk or Treat). It’s perfect as a gift for Christmas. It’s perfect to have as a fresh way of explaining the season to your kids.
Most of all, it’s a great companion to The Characters of Christmas which a lot of folks use this time of year as an Advent devotional or a family reading during Christmas. There are even churches that do this as a series in December. I enjoyed writing this because I’ve always loved character profiles—digging deeper into the lives of these ordinary folks caught up in the drama of the incarnation: Mary, Joseph, the wise men, the shepherds, the angels, and, yes, even Herod.
The bottom line is that both The Characters of Christmas for adults and young adults and Jesus and The Characters of Christmas for kids are both gonna help you see this season afresh, through the eyes of the people who were there.
Okay, back to 85 degrees and pumpkin spice.
