Easter reflections, Christians in sports, and other world news updates
Happy day after Easter. I love Easter, it’s one of my favorite times of the year. This year is a little weird because we are in the process of leaving Nashville and moving to Texas, so this season is full of goodbyes.
We also had our first event with The Land Center. Paul Miller visited campus and it was great. Miller’s insight on Just War, foreign policy, and other topics were so helpful, and our Texas Baptist and Southwestern students asked amazing questions. If you couldn’t attend but want to watch, we’re working on getting the recording posted online soon.
Okay, here are a few Easter reflections I enjoyed:
Matt Martens shared his thoughts on resurrection hope in this article he wrote about life after life after death:
“In life after life after death, we will both be made whole and will be home with Christ and our loved ones again. May that day come soon. “Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 22:20).”
Dr. Mohler wrote a thoughtful piece on how Easter affects our politics.
Here are a few of my own Easter reflections:
An important thing to remember after this Easter weekend from a recent article I wrote for Lifeway:
“Death steals, but Jesus came to give life. So this Easter, let’s live in the reality of a fallen and painful world, but take hope that one day this same Jesus will call us forth from our graves into what He has made new.”
My friend Mike Harder had me on his podcast The Harder Question where we discussed Holy Week and important topics related to my book The Characters of Easter.
A few other things I wrote:
I enjoyed the movie American Underdog about the story of Kurt Warner. ERLC asked me to write this article about Warner’s example of faithful, sacrificial love that is too rare today.
My World column discusses fighting for our children in obedience with humility and compassion.
Some good things I’ve read lately:
Ross Douthat addresses three generalized interpretations culture has adopted when considering gender identity and sexual orientation and how each one influences law, culture, and politics in this article with The New York Times.
This devastating CNN report reveals the tragedy surrounding Ukrainian children and the growing threats of those without protection.
This long read about the courageous Afghan women who fought the Taliban is really good. Mark out some time to read it.
Here's a fantastic conversation between Barton Swaim and David Mamet in this interview for the Wall Street Journal.
I loved hearing Master’s champion, Scottie Sheffler, share about his faith with Sports Spectrum.
This fun piece on the history of the best sports memes was fantastic. I can’t believe the Crying Jordan meme is ten years old.
Lastly, if you are at the final Together for the Gospel Conference in Louisville this week, come by the Southwestern Seminary booth and say hello.
