You Only Have So Much Willpower
An interview with Drew Dyck on the right and wrong way to change in this New Year.
So the calendar has turned over and out have come the journals, the self-help books, the new package of highlighters, and probably a dieting app. If you are a Christian, you probably are also (wisely) thinking through your Bible reading plan for this year.
I enjoy this time of year as it helps me think through the successes and failures of the last year and God’s great faithfulness. It also helps me narrow my focus on being faithful to my calling in the next year. Moses, who lived 120 years, prayed and asked the Lord, “Teach us to number our days so we can apply our hearts to wisdom (Psalm 90:12).”

Drew is a former managing editor of Leadership Journal (where we both worked and wrote together for a time) and a current senior acquisitions editor for Moody Press. He is a thoughtful speaker, writer, pastor, and he has a new book out that I highly recommend, Your Future Self Will Thank You: Secrets to Self-Control from the Bible and Brain Science (A Guide for Sinners, Quitters, and Procrastinators).
Here are some insights from an interview I did with him:
